There is no group of softball players that is tougher than the era of like 90s and early 2000s travel softball players. Hear me out. Here's why. We had to play in shorts and not just like any comfortable shorts. They were this like non-breathable like nylon material. We had to play in those shorts. Like we had to slide. We had to dive. Catchers had to put on their catcher's gear with shorts and the straps touching their skin. Like imagine sliding into like second base or home plate on a rock hard infield with like no protection. Now, later on in like the early 2000s, there was sliding shorts that came out and we did have these like ginormous knee pads that we could wear on our legs that could cover up our knees and all that. And like fun fact, like when you would wear these sliding pads, either two things happened. they were old they were stretched out and like the velcro wasn't sticking so they would honestly probably like slide down your leg as you're running the bases so now when you're running the bases the sliding pad is not in place and now your knees are just bare to the ground or they were on almost too tight and you could barely run so you were like running like your knee couldn't bend in these sliding pads too so like if they were on a little bit too tight they would like hinder your running ability and you would just be so slow so in addition to like all the sliding pads mess that we had to deal with and the nylon uniforms which were so so like thick and that you couldn't you could your sweat would just stay on your body we also had to deal with the horrendous tan lines when i tell you like imagine wearing like shorts and then high socks, and then the sliding pad, and then like just your knees are just wide open to the sun. So imagine pulling up to your friend's pool party in the summertime with a softball tan line from back in the 90s and the 2000s. Racerback tan line, v-neck tan line. So then I'm not saying like any just tan, like you're out there for hours in the sun. So there is a crazy difference between your skin pigments, between your v-neck, your racerback, and then also your kneecaps. I think my kneecaps are like permanently more tan than the rest of my body because of the fact that we had to wear shorts and high socks. Tell me in a generation that's tougher.
